St Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery, Kennebunkport ME, August 2023
This Tudor style house was built in 1900 and then became a Monastery in 1947 when it was bought by Lithuanian Franciscans.
This was a very amazing place. So reverent and humbling. I could feel the Spirit in that place. We met Brother Henry who is a priest there. He is from Uganda.
There were actual relics from different places, but you could see that some of them were missing. This is an open place to the public so I would guess that someone took them. Very sad.
On these steps are the seven things Jesus said while on the cross in order with the first step the first thing He said up the steps to the 7th things He said. Step #1 “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” #2 “This day though shalt be with Me in paradise.” #3 “Woman, behold thy son.” #4 “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me.” #5 “I thirst.” #6 “Father, into they hands I commit my spirit.” #7 “It is finished.”
Wow! Thank you, my Lord for what you have done for me.
There were separate statues commemorating each of the 14 stations of the cross. These are a Catholic tradition . In # 6 legend says that the woman was St. Veronica.
