Amish food and snacks
We sampled lots of authentic Amish food and snacks while we stayed in Amish country outside Lancaster PA. It’s all made with old style home recipes, with local grown and fresh ingredients; all from scratch. So good!
Some of the most popular things that were recommended we try were Dutch apple dumplings, butter noodles, scrapple, soft pretzels, shoo-fly pie, smoked cheeses, Dutch cabbage rolls, corn soup, chipped beef, pot pies, doughnuts, apple butter, cured meats, chow-chow, preserves, and other things.
We had most all of them! I had had the Dutch cabbage rolls and apple butter when we visited the Amish community in Pinecraft Florida at Yoder’s restaurant. So here I tried different food at Katie’s Kitchen, the authentic Amish food restaurant. And instead of apple butter, we got some blueberry peach butter! Oh my goodness, so good! And from Katie’s we brought home homemade strawberry jelly! Just like mom made when I was little in Arkansas. See the link below for Katie’s for more on that.

In the pictures you can see where each of these items comes from. We got them at the Bird in Hand Farmers Market but most of them also have their own shops.
